Putters
These clubs are the most popular because they are used more than any other of the clubs. They come in so many different sizes and are used to hit the ball towards the hole along the green. The heads of these come in two different forms, a mallet with a flat surface or a flat blade. The sizes that putters come in are 34 to 35 inches tall.

Wedges
Wedges are used to make the ball go high into the air upon contact with one another. There are a few different wedges that are used for different situations. For example, a pitching wedge would be a great option when the ball is as far as 130 yards from the green. Another one is called the sand wedge and this club is used when the ball is in tall grass or a bunker.

Drivers
A driver is also called the 1 wood and has the lowest loft of any golf club. Use this club when teeing off on a hole. This club will help you get the longest shot possible over using woods, wedges, or irons. There are different sizes but the average size used in the PGA Tour is 44.5 inches.

Irons
After you hit the ball and it lands on the course anywhere from 200 yards or less from the green, an Iron is your best option. Use one of the middle irons like 4-, 5- and 6- if the ball is resting 150 to 170 yards from the hole. When purchasing a golf set, they usually only have 3- through 9- iron because the 1- and 2- are so difficult to use.

Woods
This club is used to make the ball travel as far as possible. There are different sizes and the woods with higher numbers are more lofted than woods with smaller numbers. The higher numbered Woods should be used when teeing off. You should also use these clubs to hit the ball in the fairway.
